⌜ In the Mood for Boba ⌟

Hi everyone ~ Hope you all are well! I'm feeling somewhat better or I'm getting better at ignoring mental distress, either or so I'm hoping I'll get more of what I want to get done this week.

It's been brought to my attention there are fanart and doujinshi scans that are being suggested as decks, and while I would prefer all our decks to be official art, I'm going to put this to a vote. If the voting ends up in favour of fanart, I ask that if you have suggested or are planning to suggest a piece of work that is not official, you send me an email with a screenshot of the artist explicitly granting permission for use of their artwork. And let me know if any of our current decks are fanart I'm so out of the loop I can't even tell anymore ^^;

I voted either way Official art only is good, but my only hangup about fanart is getting the artist's permission. Your policy sounds like a great way to handle it!

I voted for official art only. I love fan art but I think getting permission from artists can make it more difficult to implement in practice, and there are already a lot of deck suggestions to implement. Maybe it would be good to allow art that is published in an actual book or product? Plenty of doujinishi is in regular syndication or has been published in artbooks, so presumably those artists would expect their work to be shared with a wider audience. Just a thought! :) I think if fan art does get added to Snow, your suggestion is a really good way to make sure the artists aren't upset.

I voted for official artwork only! I think that using others artwork has cons and pros, but mostly affects the artist simply for the fact that their artwork is being used (yay for exposure to them!) but that means it also may be circulated on the internet w/o them even knowing in the first place.
i.e: minitokyo has ALOT of doujinshis and non-official art and some of it isn't even credited to the right artist > >
Also it's a ton easier to just use official work then go through the hassle of the verification, especially for Jannett xD

I voted for official, as well! I am having to go back through Reflection's decks to take out all of the cards that have fan art. If you did incorporate fan art, I do like your policy of getting the artist's permission, first!

I voted to just keep it official. You might be able to get Fan Artist permission but it's very hard to get approval from Doujin Artist who more often or not don't have there contact info scanned when there works are scanned online. Ajisaitea on 14 Aug 2016 | 11:40 am

I voted for official only but I think so long the doujin is officially published that there wouldn't be a problem. (Like say, official anthology collections of already established series or the official manga of something or other). For example, Sound Horizon is considered a doujin band but they have recently had several manga and novels published that interpret their story songs. Since these were published with approval of the band and the like, I think illustrations from there wouldn't pose a problem.

I voted official only, as it can be a bother trying to get permission for pure fanart, and might be impossible in some cases. All of the images I've suggested are official, although some are from less common sources (i.e. wanderlust is taken from the original novels rather than the most recent anime with more FMA-like character designs).

I voted for not minding either way. I like fanart, but I'm too lazy to go through all the hoops for getting credit and everything, and don't want to bother people, so I wouldn't bother with it personally. XD

I think keeping it official art is for the best since many artists are very sensitive when it comes to outsiders (as in, people from outside Japan) using their art, even when you ask for permission. It gets especially tricky when they decide to delete old art and then they want to get rid of the deck that uses said art as well. :(
